What to see in Western Sicily

Palermo

In western Sicily, we find Palermo. We believe this stop essential because of its beautiful sites – many of which are protected by UNESCO – and because it unifies the history of the whole of Sicily. The city is characteristic, authentic and monumental all at the same time.
Close by is Monreale, with its beautiful Duomo, and Mondello with its gorgeous but often sadly crowded beach. Some 60 km away on the coast is Cefalù, an impressive and interesting small town that attracts a lot of visitors. If you love the mountains, the Nebrodi and the Madonie are enjoyable in any season, for trekking and skiing. If you happen to be around here, we suggest visiting the stunning Gangi, that was voted one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and also Castelbuono and Caccamo, both playing host to impressive and imposing medieval castles.

Trapani

Trapani is a relaxing town on the western coast of Sicily, a perfect base for your daily excursions throughout the whole of Western Sicily. A few miles away is Erice, a wonderful medieval village on top of a hill, among one of the best preserved in the world which creates a fairy-tale impression with castles and cobbled-stone alleys; here you will find total relax and exceptional desserts and other mouthwatering dishes.
The sea is close and also very beautiful. In the area, you can decide each day between beach and rocks: San Vito lo Capo is famous for its beach, in the locality of Castelluzzo you will find both while the Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro and the Riserva di Monte Cofano is for dreamlike cliffs and breath-taking panoramas.

To the south is Marsala with beaches and many saltpans which are characteristic of the region, along with its wind mills. You simply can’t leave Marsala without tasting the wine named after the city itself: the Marsala is a sweet wine, combined to perfection with almond biscuits as a dessert. There are any further exceptional wines we can sample in a good local winery.

In front of Trapani and Marsala are the Egadi Islands, a wonderful attraction for both the sea and the excursions offered and also the Stagnone’s Islands, among which the most interesting is Mozia for its Punic Archaeology. About 40 km away from Trapani, we recommend visiting two dramatic and remarkable archaeological sites: Segesta and Selinunte.

Valle dei Templi

The coast of Trapani is fascinating thanks its beautifully multi-coloured landscapes, gorgeous views and turquoise sea. Here, you will behold some of the most mesmerizing and thrilling of sunsets!

The most famous of Greek archaeological sites is in western Sicily, the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento. Located on top of a hill, we find colossal Greek sanctuaries that are better preserved than those in found in Greece itself. In the vicinity, there are also beautiful beaches for example in the area of Porto Empedocle and Scala dei Turchi.
